Griffith University
The Ferning Futures team at Griffith University were proactive in organising various toolkit-related events in 2024. In particular, their events revolved around gathering people together to share food, coffee and discuss areas of sustainability. The team identified that in many cultures, acts of gathering and sharing food is an important way to share stories and culture, as well as relaxing (for improved wellbeing) and bringing focus to a particular topic. The team used these same principles to educate colleagues on the SDG’s and to participate in related activities.
As a result of these gatherings, all Learning Futures colleagues were aware of the Green Impact program at Griffith and could therefore participate in several activities throughout the year, related to sustainability. Some of these events included; RUOK Day (where staff discussed the importance of monitoring mental health), donating to staff giving programs, enjoying a meat-free lunch, participating in a walk and talk & yarning circle through the Bush Tucker Garden at Logan Campus. The team even noted that conversations with colleagues in the coffee room led to the ongoing purchase of biodegradable coffee pods for the coffee machine.
