Easy Being Green
University of Tasmania
Heidi is a Research Output Officer at the University of Tasmania and has been a dedicated member of her Green Impact team since 2023. Her ‘Easy Being Green’ teammates admire Heidi for her passion for sustainability, her hard work and inspirational leadership within the Green Impact program as well as outside it. Most notably, Heidi is the author and publisher of children’s book, ‘Garbage Guts’ and her ongoing work in various educational settings.
‘Garbage Guts’ is Aria the Albatross and is based on Heidi’s many years of research on the effects of marine debris on Midway Atoll’s Laysan albatross. Heidi has worked with many primary schools and environmental groups about the use and abuse of plastic. She would conduct book readings, show the plastic junk removed from albatross chicks, and discuss ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and refuse single-use plastic. Her efforts have empowered children to understand the impact of their actions and spread awareness about plastic pollution to their friends and family.
