Ecology Green Team
Massey University
Before the Ecology Green Team came together in 2023 to participate in Green Impact, Niluka was already involved in the sustainability community at Massey University. Volunteering at ENM (Environment Network Manawatu), Niluka is committed to keeping her Green Impact team and wider department up to date with recycling initiatives in the Manawatu. She also regularly attends local Council meetings to give input regarding recycling and matters that impact the environment.
According to her Green Impact teammates, “no job with regards to Green Impact ever weighs Niluka down, she just gets on with it with the biggest passion, every time!” Her commitment to taking food waste takes her twice weekly (at least) to the other side of the campus to be collected for compost proves her ‘can-do’ attitude. As there is no collection point in Palmerston North for soft plastic recycling, Niluka collects soft plastics from work and makes the effort to drop it at collection points at nearby towns (Whanganui or Wellington) whenever she travels.
Niluka is a great leader, has a passion for Green Impact, and is an amazing inspiration!
